Knitting in the round is addicting. I can remember my earlier days of knitting where I hadn’t figured out circular knitting needles where finishing a project seemed insurmountable. I’ve got at least three “cowls” at my parents that started off intending to be scarves and never got long enough. Even today, when I’m working projects flat, I find it so much easier to lose my momentum. But when a project clicks, I can fly through it. This simple faded raglan sweater was one of them.
Marta from MaddFuzzy Yarns gifted me a few skeins of her Old World DK base in the Fog and North Atlantic colorways as a thank you for helping at the Maine Fiber Frolic last June. I’ve been itching to knit with them ever since I took them home. All it took for me to cast on this sweater was some serious sweater FOMO and a pandemic to keep me home.
In the past, I’ve struggled to find the right ‘fit’ in sweaters. I’ve got a long torso, but overall, I’m a dinky sized person and I’ve knit patterns as they’re written. Instead of hunting down a pattern and making changes, I just knit a gauge swatch and jumped right into knitting. This isn’t the smartest idea, but it worked out well! Except for having to re-knit one sleeve…
Despite an extended trip to sleeve island, I’m over the moon with this sweater and it’s fit. It’s got a lot of negative ease, which means it’s snug and fitted. This negative ease gives the sweater a lightweight feeling that makes it perfect for “spring” in New England where the mornings are 30 degrees and the afternoons are 60 degrees.
It will be a wardrobe staple for a long time and the best part is this only took two weeks to finish it because DK weight sweaters knit up SO fast! This will be the second sweater I’ve knit for myself and kept. I have two other finished sweaters that I owe you an FO post for that got gifted to my sister- and sister-in-law when they didn’t fit me right.
Since I’ll have a lot of time on my hands during the next few months thanks to social distancing, I’m hoping to knock out some long-neglected WIPs, start and finish a sweater kit that my brother-in-law got me for Christmas two years ago, AND knit the Throwover that Andrew Mowry just released. Maybe I’m overzealous, but now that I’ve got my knitting groove back and all the time in the world.
If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some knitting to do…
