Here we are! Three days to go until the shop launches and to be honest, I’ve got no idea how this is going to go. I’m excited, nervous, and proud of the pieces that will be up for sale this Wednesday! In preparation for all of this I’ll be posting the photo shoots that I’ve done over the last week showing off the different hats and cowls that will be available. Today you’ll get a peek at all of the pieces that I modeled this weekend that my wonderful friend Emma took. So here goes nothing!
A few fun facts about me while you peruse these pictures: I’m a self-taught knitter. Which is why I tend to avoid teaching people to knit since I just plopped down in front of my computer during the winter break of my freshman year of college and watched video after video until I found a teaching style that was right for me. I’ve only taught one person to knit and since she’s left handed and I’m right handed I ended up permanently messing up her knitting style (sorry Maggie). So I’ll stick to helping people find the right youtube videos from here on out.
When I taught myself to knit I was (f)unemployed over winter break. I’d told myself I didn’t have enough time to find a job since I would only be around for a month or so; suddenly finding myself with more free time than I’d ever had before I ended up bored very quickly. Knitting swooped in to the rescue and I started to make some really ugly scarves really slowly.
Over the years I became somewhat of an intermittent knitter. I had a box with a yarn stash, but I rarely knit. Once I moved to Maine that all changed. I can attribute a lot of it to the fact that the restaurant I was working at closed for a month to undergo some pretty serious renovations, and while I had a second job, it was only a couple of days a week, so I had a considerable amount of free time on my hands. It was during this month that I knit my first few hats which did not turn out that great, but Chef wore them anyway.
And just like Tom Hanks in Forest Gump “From that day on, if ever I was going somewhere, I was knitting!” That’s how the line goes, right? At least that’s what I’m going to tell myself.
Aaaanyway, since that winter I’ve been knitting pretty much non-stop. I’ve made hats for most of my family members (Bob and Amy, I’ve got two coming your way soon, I swear!) which is a pretty big deal considering just my parents, siblings, and nieces/nephews total 16 people. There may even be a matching human/dog headband set making an appearance soon… I’ve found knitting has become a very calming practice for me, which has been a lifesaver at work in meetings since I can be a jittery person otherwise.
Which brings us to the shop launch! There will be eleven cowls and nine hats for sale and these are just a few of those. All of the items are one of a kind, and the patterns were created by me. I’ll hopefully have a couple of the patterns up for sale on the website soon! I’ll have more pictures tomorrow of some of the other items for sale, so be sure to come right back!
